LeftHand Networks Government Customer Awarded #1 Digital City of the Year
LeftHand SAN Serves Vital Role In Government IT Initiatives

BOULDER, Colo., December 20, 2004 — LeftHand Networks®, a leading provider of complete, integrated IP storage area network (SAN) solutions, today announced that the City of Ogden, Utah, has been named the #1 Digital City of its population category according to the 2004 Digital Cities Survey, an annual survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government. The LeftHand SAN played an important role in the City of Ogden’s overall strategy to leverage IP infrastructure, improve efficiencies and reduce IT spending.

Government agencies are faced with mounting pressure to store and protect some of the nation’s most critical data. Business continuity mandates coupled with an increase in data has forced storage requirements to soar with a focus on reliable backup and recovery capabilities. To meet these requirements, local governments like the City of Ogden are moving from direct-attached storage environments and turning to LeftHand’s IP SAN for remote replication, centralized backup and shared data access across multiple locations.

“The City’s storage infrastructure provided by LeftHand Networks is a primary component to the entire IT infrastructure, which was evaluated in the Digital Cities Survey,” said Jay Brummett, the City of Ogden’s Chief Technology Officer. “The LeftHand SAN has been extremely easy to manage, even for our data intensive operation. We leverage the SAN as an integral component to our overall IT infrastructure and disaster recovery initiatives.”

The LeftHand SAN was selected to address the City’s need for a scalable and flexible storage solution that was capable of addressing long-term growth expectations while, at the same time, reduce down time, simplify administration, provide high data availability and improve performance across the network.

LeftHand Networks has experienced significant growth in the government industry, particularly with local and county government agencies. Other LeftHand government customers include; City of Elgin, Illinois; Dupage County Health Department; Eagle County, Colorado; City of Fort Collins, Colorado; Davis County, Utah; State of Wyoming State Engineer’s Office; State of Wyoming Supreme Court; Summit County Government, Colorado; Town of Vail, Colorado; and the Wyoming Department of Revenue.

The LeftHand SAN is ideal for Microsoft® Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, server consolidation, local or geographic disaster recovery and backup projects. LeftHand’s SAN/iQ software is revolutionizing the storage market by delivering simple, cost-effective, standards-based storage solutions that adapt to unpredictable business requirements.

About LeftHand Networks
LeftHand Networks re-defined shared network storage in 2001 with the introduction of the first full-featured IP Storage Area Network (SAN). By building a SAN with LeftHand’s SAN/iQ software and the existing Ethernet infrastructure, the LeftHand solution provides all the functionality of a fibre channel SAN while eliminating the learning curve, complexity, and expensive components associated with fibre channel. SAN/iQ – the intelligence behind the SAN – spreads the power of the LeftHand SAN across all storage modules using a distributed computing model. The advantages for users include simple management and unlimited, dynamic growth, no single point of failure, and performance that scales up as storage capacity grows. The LeftHand SAN is ideal for server and storage consolidation, centralized backup, and disaster recovery projects.
