Gearworks Launches Initiative to Deliver Mobile Workforce Management Software for the GPS-Enabled BlackBerry 7520

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 14, 2004 -- etrace(R) software to leverage BlackBerry platform to address need among field service organizations for advanced data collection and transaction capabilities

Gearworks, a leading provider of mobile workforce management software, announced today an initiative to deliver a version of its flagship etrace(R) mobile workforce management software on the BlackBerry(R) wireless platform from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM) (TSX:RIM).

Under this initiative, Gearworks is developing an advanced version of its etrace software specifically designed to leverage the BlackBerry platform. Gearworks will also participate in joint market development activities through RIM's BlackBerry ISV Alliance Partner program. The first product of this multi-phase initiative will be released in early 2005.

"Using the BlackBerry platform as a foundation to streamline mobile workflow is an increasingly popular business strategy for many organizations, especially in the field service market," said Mark Guibert, vice president of corporate marketing at Research In Motion. "Gearworks' etrace mobile workforce management software for BlackBerry will help customers gain valuable insights into their field service operations to optimize performance."

Gearworks' etrace is a wireless and Web-based solution that enables field service organizations to measure, manage and optimize field operations at the point of delivery. etrace will leverage the BlackBerry platform and BlackBerry 7520 to help companies address the need for more advanced, field-based data collection and transaction capabilities.

The BlackBerry 7520 provides the power of always-on BlackBerry connectivity to e-mail, voice, text messaging, HTML Web browsing and organizer applications. The Java-based application environment for BlackBerry combined with integrated GPS support also makes it a compelling platform for a wide range of additional mobile applications.

"The new GPS-enabled BlackBerry 7520 signals a new era of mobile business platforms, and we are pleased to support this exciting product," said Todd Krautkremer, chief executive officer for Gearworks. "Gearworks has embarked on a multi-phase BlackBerry platform initiative that will open the door to field service-driven companies with more advanced data processing requirements who have been shut out from the benefits of mobile workforce management due to the higher cost and complexity of traditional PDA solutions."
