Samsung Electronics Selects Cornice Storage Element for Industry's First High-Capacity Mobile Phone; Cornice Notches Fourth ``Market First'' with Samsung Mobile Phone Deal

LONGMONT, Colo. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 14, 2004 -- Cornice Inc. -- an innovator in compact, high-capacity storage -- today announced that Samsung Electronics has selected the 1.5-gigabyte Cornice Storage Element for its new SPH-V5400 mobile phone. As the first mobile phone with an embedded storage solution, Samsung's SPH-V5400 represents an entirely new class of mobile phone technology capable of storing hundreds of MP3 files and thousands of images, as well as downloading video content.

The Samsung agreement marks the fourth time Cornice has partnered with a world-class consumer electronics manufacturer to deliver industry-first products with storage capabilities that set new standards for capacity, function and value. Prior to mobile phones, the Cornice Storage Element was embedded in the first "pocketable" MP3, USB and GPS products ever introduced.

The Cornice Storage Element is the leading embedded storage product because it offers the exact performance, capacity and low-cost requirements manufacturers need to introduce highly advanced, media-based handheld electronic devices. Packed into an affordable, half-cubic-inch, Cornice storage solutions require one-fourth of the working components of magnetic disk drives, and offer the durability and extended battery life typically enjoyed by solid-state media. Compact, rugged and optimized for portable electronics, the Cornice Storage Element is a key component in many of the most innovative consumer electronic devices used throughout the world.

Samsung's SPH-V5400, which is currently available in the Korean market, combines the high-capacity and compact size of the one-inch Cornice Storage Element with the convenience of a "pocketable" mobile phone, enabling consumers to carry one converged device that acts as a mobile phone, digital audio player, camera and personal wallet. In addition, the phone features a 2.2-inch, high-resolution (QVGA) LCD screen, a built-in megapixel camera that can take photos or record videos, and two speakers for 3D sound. The phone also can connect to a PC and serve as a USB drive to upload and download images, videos and music.

"Incorporating the Cornice Storage Element into our newest mobile phone has allowed us to create a small phone with huge storage capabilities, greatly expanding the storage capacity -- and therefore functions and features -- of mobile phones from the conventional 100MB maximum capacity available with Flash," said Young Woo Lee, vice president of Samsung's Advanced Mobile Strategy Planning Group. "We believe that Cornice offers the ideal balance of high-capacity storage paired with compact size to support our mission to build market-leading, highly-innovative mobile phones. We are pleased to be the first company to bring this exciting mobile phone technology to market."
