The United States Environmental Protection Agency Selects PatchLink Update for Patch & Vulnerability Management

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 8, 2004 -- Scalability, Largest Patch Repository & Ease of Implementation Give EPA Ability to Efficiently Deploy Patches To Further Strengthen Enterprise Security

PatchLink(TM) Corporation (www.patchlink.com), the leading provider of security patch and vulnerability management software, services, and solutions, today announced at Infosecurity 2004 in New York City (Booth 110), that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Environmental Information (OEI) has selected PATCHLINK UPDATE(TM) as its security patch and vulnerability management solution to protect the agency and its distributed enterprise infrastructure following a rigorous and extensive competitive review and project pilot.

In selecting PATCHLINK UPDATE, the EPA sought a security patch management solution that would help resolve vulnerabilities across heterogeneous networks in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Additionally, PatchLink's Patch Development Kit gives the EPA greater ability to ensure protection of critical proprietary IT assets and was an important consideration in the selection of PATCHLINK UPDATE. To date, the EPA has deployed PATCHLINK UPDATE agents on thousands of nodes spanning multiple offices and heterogeneous networks.

According to the OEI's Security Technical Monitor Bill Sabbagh, "PATCHLINK UPDATE has improved the timeliness, efficiency, and certainty of EPA's patch management process while also reducing direct and indirect costs associated with security patching."

Commenting further on specific aspects of the product implementation, Sabbagh adds, "The PatchLink Distribution Point(TM) feature was also an important criteria since it helps us fully leverage PatchLink's comprehensive and centralized repository of tested patches across our optimized, tier-distribution architecture. PatchLink's vast repository of patches gives us the ability to successfully administer and deploy security patches in a matter of minutes across our various departments and regional offices through a single partner rather than through a cumbersome vendor-by-vendor process."

"The EPA is a great example of distributed security patch management done right," notes PatchLink CEO Sean Moshir. "With a clear understanding of EPA requirements for regional office deployment and headquarter testing and administration, PatchLink is moving strategically through a relatively complex infrastructure to support EPA security and IT control initiatives."

PATCHLINK UPDATE 6, the market's leading security patch and vulnerability management software solution, maximizes patch detection and deployment scalability through PatchLink Distribution Point(TM), a highly flexible, multi-tier patch distribution service that leverages the benefits of WAN patch distribution over networks with low bandwidth or highly utilized connections between remote offices. Also included is Fast Patch(TM), a technology that intelligently finds the closest distribution point to download security patches. Moreover, with the added value of PatchLink's long-established repository of rigorously tested patches and vulnerability fixes, the EPA is now able to experience a more focused methodology for controlling and standardizing the agency's security patch and vulnerability management process.
