Fractal Antenna Awarded European Patent on Key Wireless Technology

BOSTON --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 7, 2004 -- Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., today disclosed that it has been granted a European patent for its fractal antenna technology. This seventh patent grant augments Fractal Antenna's intellectual property portfolio on the breakthrough technology it discovered and pioneered.

Noted the firm's CEO, David Moschella: "We've been waiting patiently since 1996 for the granting of our first European patent, which is an important milestone establishing the recognized priority of our technology base. In addition to our long extant US patent protection, this one patent grant establishes us as a legitimate and legal owner of the fractal element antenna technology in an additional key world market. The European patent will extend our IP protection across Europe, including Spain and Great Britain, for example." Moschella also noted that the firm has not licensed its rights to other European antenna companies, and is expecting the issuance of an eighth patent in the coming weeks.

Fractal antennas are based on intricate repeating geometrical shapes. They are very broadband, physically smaller, and can be chosen to work at specific bands. A subset of fractal designs has been shown by the firm's scientists to be essential to understanding the property of 'frequency independence' in Maxwell's equations, which govern the properties of the electromagnetic spectrum including radio frequencies.

The firm's novel antennas have unique attributes that make them especially valuable for telecommunications and key wireless markets. Applications include: WiFi, military, cell phones, base stations, automotive, RFID, and other wireless markets.

Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc. recently entered its tenth year of business, with record sales and growth. Adds Moschella: "We see another record year ahead for sales of our products and licensing of our designs, and believe that our worldwide sales will mirror our increasing domestic and international patent portfolio. We know that continental customers will rest assured by the new patent grant." Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc. has dozens of U.S. and international patents pending.

The company maintains web sites at www.fractenna.com and www.fractalantennas.com.
