Ixia Announces New Version of IxChariot -- Industry Standard in Enterprise Application Traffic Emulation

CALABASAS, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 9, 2004 -- Release 5.1 Leverages Ixia Hardware for Highly Scalable Voice over IP and Denial of Service Testing, Further Expanding IPv6 Functionality Analysis

Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, announced today that version 5.1 of IxChariot(R), the industry standard for enterprise application traffic emulation, has been released to customers worldwide.

IxChariot 5.1 uniquely leverages the wide range of high-performance Ixia hardware test modules to generate Voice over IP (VoIP) streams emulating tens of thousands of bi-directional calls. This new release also includes a set of Denial of Service (DoS) and Internet Relay Chat (IRC) scripts to measure the impact of these technologies on mission-critical VoIP, streaming media, and other enterprise application traffic.

"VoIP technology has moved from isolated islands of usage to mass acceptance in all global enterprise and carrier markets," said Chris Buerger, product manager at Ixia. "IxChariot 5.1 provides the required scalability to measure device and network performance by generating tens of thousands of simultaneous calls."

This new release of IxChariot is capable of accurately generating more than 38,000 bi-directional calls per Gigabit Ethernet port or up to an impressive 150,000 bi-directional calls for each four-port Ixia test module. In addition, IxChariot 5.1 enhances IPv6 functionality by now supporting IPv6 Multicast and IPv6 QoS for all application scripts. All VoIP calls can be set up for both IPv4 and IPv6 and operate in conjunction with IxChariot's advanced QoS module.

Denial of Service attacks are a reality in today's enterprise and carrier networks, and IxChariot 5.1 fully integrates a set of popular DoS attacks (e.g., TearDrop, Ping of Death, etc.) into its test framework, thereby allowing detailed impact assessments of these attacks on standard enterprise and VoIP application traffic.

New features in IxChariot 5.1 include:

-- TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS) support for all test scripts and enhancements in IxChariot's Visual Test Designer to allow the flexible creation of large scale tests

-- Complete support for IPv6 QoS and IPv6 Multicast for IxChariot application scripts

-- Denial of Service (DoS) and Internet Relay Chat (IRC) scripts to measure their impact on mission-critical VoIP, streaming media, and enterprise application traffic

-- IxChariot is now supported on Ixia's Dual-PHY Gigabit Ethernet modules, featuring both fiber and copper interfaces on the same card, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules
