Mythic Entertainment Invests in Dell Systems Globally to Provide Dynamic Online Gaming Experience

ROUND ROCK, Texas --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 9, 2004 -- Company Runs Red Hat Linux on Dell to Maximize Reliability, Performance

Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced that Mythic Entertainment, developer and publisher of the award-winning multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Dark Age of Camelot, has standardized on Dell(TM) servers, desktops and notebooks to better serve its customers around the world.

Mythic Entertainment, based in Fairfax, Va., uses Dell PowerEdge(TM) servers, Dimension(TM) desktops and Inspiron(TM) notebooks to provide peak computing power to help ensure its customers have 24/7 online access to their popular online-only game, Dark Age of Camelot.

"Our business and our customers demand 100 percent uptime, and we rely on the performance and quality of Dell systems to help keep our games running constantly on the Web," said Mark Jacobs, president and CEO of Mythic Entertainment. "Dell took us seriously from day one by listening to our needs and delivering reliability and value. Our choice of Dell hardware contributes to our success, growth and reputation for providing one of the best online gaming experiences possible."

In the United States, as many as 32,000 gamers play Dark Age of Camelot online at any given time. Mythic Entertainment meets this around-the-clock demand by powering the games on a cluster of 200 Dell PowerEdge servers running Red Hat Linux and updating game environments in real-time. In addition, Dell servers and desktops contribute to the development, testing and expansion of content by more than 150 development and support staff working on Dark Age of Camelot and Mythic Entertainment's next-generation product, Imperator.

Soon after the 2001 launch of Dark Age of Camelot in the United States, Mythic Entertainment expanded the availability of the game throughout Europe and Asia, including France, the United Kingdom and Korea. Building on the success of Dell's hardware model in the United States, the company's international partners also host games online on Dell systems, creating a standardized and collaborative environment. Today, the company has over 240,000 subscribers worldwide.

"Mythic Entertainment is a global leader in the online gaming industry and was recently honored as a finalist for the Dell/NFIB Small Business Excellence in Customer Experience Award," said Frank Muehleman, senior vice president/general manager of Dell's SMB division. "We've been listening to our SMB customers to identify the products and services most relevant to their businesses in order to deliver a high-value, cost-efficient technology infrastructure. Our partnership with Mythic Entertainment is truly an example of this customized approach."
