Interpeak Unveils TCP/IP Protocol Stacks Optimized for Award-Winning PowerQUICC III Processor STOCKHOLM, Sweden & DALLAS, Texas --(Business Wire)-- April 27, 2004 -- Leading stack vendor leverages the optimization capabilities of Freescale Semiconductor's PowerQUICC(TM) familyInterpeak, a pioneer in communications solutions for embedded systems, today unveiled new versions of its IPLITE and IPNET TCP/IP IPv4/IPv6 stacks. These new stacks are highly optimized specifically for the PowerQUICC(TM) III (MPC8560) integrated communications processors from Freescale Semiconductor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Motorola Inc. This forms an extremely powerful communications solution that enables unprecedented performance in enterprise and VPN routers, media gateways, and general embedded control devices. Many communication processors include features that may be leveraged to significantly improve networking performance. However, this potential has been underutilized by vendors of TCP/IP stacks and real-time operating systems (RTOSs). Interpeak now establishes a new standard in this area by enhancing its protocol stacks with optimizations specifically created for Freescale Semiconductor's PowerQUICC III architecture. Interpeak selected the MPC8560 as the first in a series of high-speed reference platforms due to its performance and integration capabilities. The PowerQUICC III processor contains a variety of sophisticated peripherals and an internal switch fabric. It also includes Freescale's signature communications-processor module (CPM), a highly tuned firmware-controlled engine. The IPNET and IPLITE TCP/IP stacks enable a range of technologies, including: -- DMA-assisted socket API read/write -- Optimized buffer pool in fast on-chip memory -- Ahead-of-access caching of IP header (stashing) -- HW frame type detection -- Support for 9k Gigabit Ethernet frames "Conventional TCP/IP stacks make little or no use of the many features of modern CPU architectures," said Lennart Bang, Interpeak's Vice President of Engineering. "By taking advantage of the advanced optimization techniques that are available in the PowerQUICC III processor family, the performance of our networking products has reached a previously inaccessible level." The IPNET and IPLITE IPv4/v6 Embedded TCP/IP stacks for the PowerQUICC processors come ready to run on any of today's RTOSs, such as INTEGRITY, OSE, Linux, VxWorks and others. As with all Interpeak products, they are delivered as portable ANSI C code. About Interpeak Interpeak AB provides state-of-the-art networking solutions specifically designed for embedded systems.
