Psion Teklogix and SIRIT Technologies Deliver RFID Capability for Industry-Leading 7535 Hand-Held Computer
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario --(Business Wire)-- April 21, 2004 -- Dual-mode Barcode and RFID reader meets growing needs of supply chain and logistics markets
Psion Teklogix Inc. (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless data collection, today unveiled an integrated dual-mode RFID and barcode reader from SIRIT Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SIRIT Inc. (TSX: SI), for its rugged 7535 hand-held computer. This new capability on the proven 7535 provides Psion Teklogix customers with additional data collection options. The integration of the SIRIT dual-mode barcode and RFID reader into the 7535 is the first step of a strategic partnership that will see SIRIT's RFID reader technology integrated into additional Psion Teklogix products to support the major RFID frequencies (LF, HF, UHF) and tag standards (EPC, ISO etc.).
The dual-mode 7535 provides customers with the ability to support both existing (barcode) and emerging (RFID) data collection technologies in a single integrated device, thus eliminating the need for external RFID scanning devices which can be cumbersome in some applications. Operating on a 13.56 MHz high frequency, SIRIT's integrated dual-mode barcode and RFID reader makes the 7535 an ideal device for small package pick and put away applications. It is particularly well suited for clothing manufacturing, electronic distribution centers, field service, field utilities and other small piece picking supply chain and logistics environments.

RFID technology streamlines the collection of product, place, time and transportation data. Traditional barcode scanners require line of sight to the barcode - therefore the barcode must be visible, and damaged barcodes can slow down the distribution process and lower productivity. RFID eliminates the need for line of sight as tags can be read through cardboard, plastic or paint enabling the tags to be embedded into pallets or cases. This solves the issue of damaged barcodes and makes the data collection process easier and faster for warehouse workers.
The 7535 is a powerful Windows CE .NET, standards-based hand-held computer that delivers the performance and durability required to meet the demands of mobile workers operating in harsh environments in a user-friendly, ergonomic package. The rugged 7535 delivers reliable performance, even in harsh environments with the ability to withstand high levels of shock and vibration, as well as multiple drops to concrete from heights of 6.5 feet.
