Gensym to Feature Reasoning-Driven Performance Management at Worldwide User Meeting; Users to Meet and Share Experiences October 6 to 8, 2004 in Nice, France

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- April 20, 2004 -- Gensym Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GNSM) today announced that its annual Gensym User Society (GUS) Meeting will take place in Nice, France from October 6 through 8, 2004 at the Grand Hotel Aston. GUS meetings bring together users of Gensym's technology to share experiences via presentations, demonstrations, and interactive forums.

GUS 2004 will focus on how users are improving the performance of their operations through the application of Gensym's G2(R) and G2-based reasoning technology. A major highlight will be an in-depth look at Gensym's next generation of G2 and G2-based products. The meeting will feature technology advances and operational performance results that will be of strong interest to executives, managers, and developers.

"I am very excited about this year's meeting and its location in Nice, a charming city on the French Riviera," said Lowell Hawkinson, chairman, president, and CEO of Gensym. "Holding the meeting in Europe for the first time in several years is an important indication of our company's restored strength and confidence as a global player. With over half of our business being generated internationally, and most of that in Europe, I expect a strong turnout."

Reasoning-Driven Performance Management

Throughout the meeting, users will have many opportunities to learn and share the latest tips, techniques, and management practices for successfully building and deploying reasoning-driven performance management applications. User presentations will highlight operational payback from G2-based expert systems, neural networks, and other related reasoning technologies for abnormal condition management, production management, supply-chain management, business process management, and network management.

The GUS 2004 program will feature:

-- A keynote presentation scheduled to be given by Mr. Tatsuhisa Ishii, an executive with Toyota Motor Corporation

-- Presentations of successful applications by end users and partners

-- A hands-on, next-generation G2 technology lab

-- Product roadmap overviews

-- Product and technology tutorials

-- Panel discussions

-- A solution forum with demonstrations by end users, partners, and Gensym of recent applications and emerging technologies

-- A pre-conference one-day training course for advanced G2 development practices

-- A product planning forum

-- A post-conference half-day Intelligent Objects workshop

-- A pre-conference partner meeting

-- Informal discussions and networking

-- An awards banquet

Next Generation of G2 and G2-based Products

GUS 2004 will offer users a detailed look at Gensym's next generation of products. The next generation, which is compatible with the previous generation, advances Gensym's leading real-time reasoning technology for operational decision-support solutions. Gensym expects to largely complete its transition to its next generation during 2004. Some of the exciting next-generation capabilities are: advanced reasoning technology for more powerful decision support, out-of-the-box application functionality to speed up deployment, embedability in larger systems for deployment flexibility, enhanced support of data exchange and messaging standards, and a new user interface based on Microsoft Windows standards for greater ease-of-use.

G2 8.0, the next-generation G2, is scheduled for release prior to GUS 2004. Attendees will learn about G2 8.0, Intelligent Objects(TM), and pre-release versions of other products through demonstrations, presentations, tutorials, and hands-on test drives in a next-generation technology lab.
