SBANE Announces Semi-Finalists for 2004 New England Innovation Awards Program; 17 Companies Recognized for Their Success Through Innovation

WALTHAM, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- April 20, 2004 -- The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) today announced that 17 companies have been chosen as semi-finalists in its annual New England Innovation Awards Program. The companies were chosen from more than 100 nominees representing the region's technology, services, retail/distribution and manufacturing industries. The winners will be announced at SBANE's "Evening of Innovation" gala on May 20 at the Newton (Mass.) Marriott.

"This year we had a record-breaking number of nominees, 13 percent more than last year," said Bob Baker, president of SBANE. "This significant increase sends a strong, positive message that innovation and business growth are alive and well in New England."

SBANE established The New England Innovation Awards program in 1986. The awards recognize companies that are not merely successful, but whose success is due to innovation and thought leadership. More than 100 companies have been honored, representing the many different faces of innovation.

Judging was based on four factors: the specific nature of the nominee's innovation, the social and/or industry impact of the innovation, the company's rate of growth, and its financial stability. The winners will be chosen based on their overall scores in the judging criteria.
