SAN MATEO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- April 15, 2004 -- Washington Veteran to Help Tropos Promote its Cost-Effective, Industry-Leading Metro Wi-Fi Solution

Tropos Networks, a leading supplier of equipment used to build metro-scale Wi-Fi networks, today announced that Jack Kemp will chair the company's Advisory Board. Mr. Kemp currently serves on the Boards of several leading technology companies, including Oracle, InPhonic, EZGov, and SmartCOP. He will take an active role with Tropos, assisting in high-level sales and business development activities.

"The tremendous price-performance and ease of use of Tropos metro-scale Wi-Fi products represents an enormous opportunity for our nation's cities and towns," said Mr. Kemp. "Metro-scale broadband will significantly improve public safety by bringing broadband security applications such as crime databases and video surveillance to police officers on the street. Additionally, the Tropos solution will enhance economic development in both urban and small town areas throughout the country."

"We are extremely excited to have Jack's involvement with our company," said Ron Sege, Tropos Networks President and CEO. "He will enhance the tremendous momentum developing behind Metro-Scale Wi-Fi, as prospective customers increasingly become aware of the ease of deployment and low cost to own and operate these networks."

Mr. Kemp is co-founder of Empower America, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration of public policy solutions that foster economic growth, individual responsibility, free trade, and free enterprise. In addition, Mr. Kemp currently serves as Chairman of the Board of FreeMarket Global, a global merchant banking, trading and investment company, Founder of Kemp Partners, a strategic consulting firm, and on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity, for whom he is Chairman of the More Than Houses campaign.

Prior to Mr. Kemp's career in public service, he was a professional football quarterback. His football career spanned 13 years, mostly with the Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers. He led the Bills to two AFL championships and, in 1965, was awarded the AFL's Most Valuable Player Award. Additionally, he co-founded the AFL Players Association, to which he was elected president five times.

Tropos products deliver city-wide mobile broadband access via a scalable, reliable and secure Wi-Fi infrastructure. The heart of the Tropos solution is a new class of product called a Wi-Fi cell, which layers patented routing intelligence on top of 802.11 standard Wi-Fi cells to form an economical, self-configuring and self-healing wireless broadband data network that forwards client data through a mesh along the highest throughput path to a wired network. The result is a high performance, large scale Wi-Fi deployment that costs a fraction of competing broadband systems to own and to operate. A Tropos system can be deployed at a multi-square-mile scale in a matter of days, providing an outdoor mobile broadband experience that is indistinguishable from indoor wireless and wired experiences.
