Progeny Transition Service Launches Security Update Service for Red Hat Linux 9 INDIANAPOLIS --(Business Wire)-- April 7, 2004 -- Progeny today announced that it is adding security updates for Red Hat(R) Linux(R) 9 to its Progeny Transition Service (PTS) beginning May 1, 2004. PTS already provides updates for Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0, and coverage has recently been extended through 2005. Many users still rely on these legacy versions of Red Hat Linux, and appreciate the flexibility that PTS provides so that they can migrate to a new platform on their own schedule.Ongoing customer demand for a fully supported, reliable security update service has prompted us to extend PTS through December 2005, said Greg Duwe, Progeny's Director of Sales. Our subscribers prefer to tap into our experience to help them maintain their legacy systems, rather than having to do their own monitoring, packaging, and patch testing. Using the Progeny service has saved our organization time, money, and needless risk by allowing us to migrate from Red Hat 7.2 on our terms, when it fits our business needs--not Red Hat's, commented Rudy Pawul, Lead System Administrator of ISO New England, the independent system operator of New England's energy supply. The RPMs from Progeny are reliable and available extremely quickly. Additional details: -- Subscribers have access to a software repository containing security updates for Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, and 9 (begins May 1, 2004). -- Subscribers are notified of security vulnerabilities and available patches. -- Pricing is $5 per machine per month; or a flat rate of $2,500 per month for unlimited machines. -- Progeny Transition Service is based on Progeny's Platform Services technology and provides a flexible migration path for Red Hat Linux subscribers.
