StraitShot Communications To Deploy Quarry iQ4000 Security Service Routers
Quarry Technologies, a supplier of carrier-class security service routers, announced that StraitShot Communications plans to deploy its iQ4000 Security Service Routers network-wide. StraitShot, a Bellevue-Washington-based service provider developing a lower cost, full-featured alternative to Frame Relay and traditional Virtual Private Networks (VPN), selected the Quarry iQ4000 for its cost-effective combination of high-performance virtual routing, extensive management capabilities and security services for VPNs. They plan to begin rolling out the Quarry Security Service Router this month in Sunnyvale, California and plan to continue to turn up service in five additional markets within the next 18 months.
StraitShot plans to deploy the Quarry platforms to create a new model for networking that physically spans existing access networks, such as Allegiance Telecom, New Edge Networks and other carriers, to deliver secure Consolidated Private Networking. Using its own proprietary architecture, the company is connecting regional points-of-presence (POPs) through private backbones to provide corporate networking services with the performance and security advantages of frame relay, but at prices comparable to or below the cost of VPNs.
"We are leading a private networking revolution and needed technology that combined the best of security, management, quality of service, routing and remote access capabilities," said StraitShot CEO Scott Painter. "Quarry's iQ4000 is a strategic part of our network and enables us to create the first viable delivery method for emerging business services such Voice-over-IP, Video-on-Demand and other enterprise applications."
The Quarry iQ platform will provide Layer 3 security services, subscriber management, access concentration, QoS, and VPN termination for remote users. Quarry also gives StraitShot the ability to roll out a menu of security services to its corporate customers on a per-subscriber basis including: intrusion detection, Denial of Service protection, and other advanced services.
"This is an exciting deployment for us on several levels," said Ian Mashiter, president and CEO of Quarry Technologies. "Not only is StraitShot developing an exciting new networking model, but they plan to fully exploit the iQ4000's capabilities; which is significant validation of our approach to combining security services with the most advanced virtual routing capabilities available. Security is a major selling point for StraitShot's private networking services and Quarry is pleased to be the enabling technology in this innovative network."
