Tekelec Completes SanteraOne Testing at Iowa Network Services

Tekelec, a developer of telecommunication solutions for next-generation fixed, mobile, and packet networks, announced today that its now and next-generation switch, SanteraOne, has successfully completed Class 5 testing at Iowa Network Services (INS). The switch is now confirmed to operate with the INS network.

INS, which is owned by 127 independent operating companies (IOCs) in Iowa and serves more than 330 communities, tested SanteraOne over a three-month period. It successfully passed 100 percent of the INS interoperability tests during this period, and, because of the product's excellent performance, secondary testing was not required.

"Our goal at INS is to provide the most reliable centralized access possible to the independent carriers of Iowa, and, as such, we mandate the highest technology standards," said Leon Hofer, vice president of operations for INS. "Many Class 5 switches in our member network will need to be updated or replaced in the near future. In considering those replacements, our members are looking not only at their needs today but also at their needs in the future."

Fred Lax, president and CEO of Tekelec, commented, "The native TDM and packet architecture of SanteraOne, as well as its ability to scale in port density beyond that of competitive next-generation platforms, really differentiates us from other suppliers in the marketplace. Iowa IOCs have expressed that these characteristics are what is needed to maximize revenues, expand networks and service offerings, and simplify operations, allowing for enhanced customer service. Iowa carriers are leading the pack in planning and shaping the telecommunications networks of the future, and, with federal funding assistance through the Rural Utilities Service, tomorrow's network is becoming a reality today."
