[December 19, 2003] Liberty Wireless Unveils Liberty Simple Calling Plans Liberty Wireless, an independent provider of pay-as-you-go nationwide wireless phone service, today unveiled a suite of wireless calling plans that require no contracts, credit checks or costly deposits. The new calling plans simplify mobile phone service, offering consumers the most affordable, flexible and reliable nationwide service available.Existing cell phone users wishing to take advantage of the new ability to keep their current phone number when switching service providers, can now try out no-contract plans with Liberty's all-digital nationwide service without being locked into multi-year contracts that impose costly early termination fees. "One third of all cell phone users are under contract with their existing wireless carrier and face early-termination fees of $175 or more, if they want to take advantage of the FCC's new number portability rules," said Don Charlton, President of Liberty Wireless. Also under the new FCC rules, known as Wireless Local Number Portability or WLNP, consumers in the 100 largest metropolitan areas can "cut the cord" by transferring their home phone number to a wireless phone. Unlike plans from the major national wireless carriers, Liberty's pay-as-you-go calling plans give customers the flexibility to take their phone number back to a conventional wireline or another wireless carrier at any time without penalty, if not completely satisfied.
