Ziggo selects Motorola Video Server(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Ziggo, a cable service provider in the Netherlands, has selected Motorola's on-demand platform to deliver Ziggo's High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) video-on-demand service. The service launched commercially in the former Casema network in the second quarter of 2008, and services will be expanded into the wider Ziggo network before the end of the year. The Motorola B-1 Video Server and Stream Commander management software enable Ziggo's customers touch-button access to programmes, movies, documentaries, music clips etc and support the planned rollout of HD content. By separating storage from streaming, the Motorola B-1 video servers resources at reportedly a fraction of the operational costs of legacy servers. The solid-state Motorola server provides a high-performance, scalable and reliable solution for video on-demand and an open platform for advanced, on-demand services such as Time-Shifted TV, nDVR and on-demand ad insertion.
