Zhone Technologies Multi-Service Access Platform Selected by WorldNet Telecommunications, Inc., for Voice and High Speed Broadband Services

OAKLAND, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZHNE), a global leader in single-platform delivery of voice, DSL, EFM, FTTx and wireless broadband services, announced today that Puerto Rico based CLEC, WorldNet has added EFM (Ethernet in the first mile) to its service portfolio with Zhone's MALC(TM) multi-service access platform (MSAP).

WorldNet first deployed Zhone's MALC in 2005 when it transitioned to an unbundled network element platform provider (UNE-P). Now the San Juan based CLEC has grown to become one of the top three telecommunications providers in Puerto Rico. "Zhone's platform offers the widest range of service options and highest port density in one power-efficient form factor," said David Bogaty, president of WorldNet. "The any-card-any-slot-any-service strategy gives us the flexibility to be highly responsive to customer interests while providing us a first-to-market advantage." With Zhone's MALC, WorldNet introduced new EFM over T-1 and G.SHDSL.bis lines for ultra high-speed symmetrical business services. "The result has been a resounding success for both our business customers and our company," Mr. Bogaty said. "Our customers receive the benefit of faster speeds and higher bandwidth while WorldNet realizes significant reductions in operating costs." Zhone's platform enables WorldNet to provide POTS voice, and VoIP over broadband services using Zhone's ReachDSL(TM) as well as ADSL2+, G.SHDSL, and now EFM services in a single platform solution. In addition to Voice, ADSL2+ and EFM, WorldNet has the option of provisioning FTTx, VDSL2 and Wi-Fi now or in the future. WorldNet currently has installed the MALC in central offices throughout San Juan.

"While 75 percent of the population is yet to connect in Puerto Rico, broadband Internet has experienced year-over-year growth of more than 50 percent in large part due to WorldNet's initiative," said Steven Glapa, Zhone's VP of product management and marketing. "Zhone's multi-service platform provides a powerful competitive advantage and WorldNet is an outstanding model." About WorldNet Telecommunications Established in 1996, WorldNet Telecommunications, Inc. is a Puerto Rican company that offers a comprehensive portfolio of services, including voice and data, data platform MPLS, EFM, Voice over IP, high-speed Internet, telecommunications equipment and expert consultancy services.
