Zero-Landfill / Zero-Export Computer and Electronics Recycling at Wolf Trap Saturday, April 25, 2009, 10 AM to 2 PMVIENNA, Va., April 6, 2009 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Northern Virginia Technology Council, and PC Recycler, Inc., led by local Boy Scout Troop 55 Eagle Scout candidate Garrett Pan, join together on April 25, 2009 to bring environmentally responsible computer and electronics recycling to Wolf Trap's neighbors and friends. Held at the Center for Education at Wolf Trap, 1645 Trap Rd., Vienna, VA from 10 AM to 2 PM, community members are encouraged to drop off their obsolete computers, computer peripherals, audio and stereo equipment, VCRs, DVD players, video cameras, telephones, facsimiles, copying machines, cellular phones, televisions, monitors, wireless devices and video game consoles. A complete list of items that can be brought to the event for recycling can be found here. A per item fee will be charged for computer monitor and television recycling and hard drive shredding. No batteries or light bulbs will be accepted. To speed the process, participants should download and print this computer recycling form. Each year an estimated 750,000 personal computers end up in landfills, and according to the USA Today, "The EPA estimates 60 million electronics products a year [are discarded], most of which are exported." One color computer monitor alone contains 6 1/2 pounds of lead and measurable amounts of cadmium, mercury, and other toxic metals. PC Recycler, responsible for collecting and recycling the electronics, guarantees that every part of items dropped off will be recycled and nothing will be disposed of in a landfill.
