The swab is gently rubbed on the inside of the cheek and returned in the provided envelope. The DNA from the swab is then isolated (purified) using standard molecular biology techniques. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Gel Electrophoresis are then employed to image the DNA profile on a gel matrix. A photograph is taken using a custom gel imaging system that includes a high-powered digital camera.
