Wipro Announces Innovation Isle on Second Life, Becomes First Indian Company to Announce Virtual Presence


BANGALORE, India --(Business Wire)-- Wipro Technologies, the global IT services arm of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT), today launched its Innovation Isle in Second Life, one of internet's most populous virtual worlds. With today's launch, Wipro becomes the first Indian company to leverage new age stakeholder engagement vehicles to establish a virtual brand presence. Since opening to the public in 2003, Second Life has grown explosively and today is inhabited by more than nine million people around the globe. Phase One of an anticipated multi-phase presence for Wipro in Second Life has been launched today, with the unveiling of Wipro's pioneering Offshore Development Center (ODC) model campus with facilities like Client engagement center, Learning Center, 3 floor ODC setup with cubicles, Security desk at the campus entrance gate, Amphitheater, Press announcements hall, Basketball and Volleyball courts, Admin, Data center and Library. It will be regularly staffed by Wipro's own avatars.

Wipro is also bringing new capabilities to corporate recruitment in 2007 via its Innovation Isle Island. Prospective candidates will be able to submit their resume at Wipro's virtual campus. Initially, limited to Wipro BPO, the e-recruitment initiative will be later become an integral part of Wipro's recruitment drive.

In later phases, Wipro will use Second Life to collaborate with customers and partners, host virtual conferences and provide a mutual platform to infuse innovation in the space of technology and business transformation. The hub will also serve as a virtual learning campus to further connect and grow the creative talent of Wipro.

The Innovation Isle is created and managed by Wipro's Gaming and Animation Practice. Wipro's Gaming and Animation Practice is a leading provider of third party end to end game development and game engineering services. The Gaming and Animation Center of Excellence is based out of Hyderabad and has expertise in end to end game development across PC, Consoles, Mobile and Web Platforms.
