WHEATFIELD: Teen charged with iPhone theftWHEATFIELD, Jan 01, 2009 (Niagara Gazette - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A North Tonawanda teen has been accused of trying to sell a man's stolen iPhone back to him. Tyler Avery Snickles, 17, 1676 Fillner Ave., North Tonawanda, was charged Monday with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny. A Tonawanda man told deputies that someone stole his iPhone, worth about $400, while he was at the gym at the air base. When he realized his phone was missing, he and a friend called the phone but got no answer. After they made the call, they received a text message saying the person had the iPhone and would be willing to meet with the man and sell it back to him for $100. The person, who would be later identified as Snickles, reportedly made arrangements to meet at 9:30 p.m. in a McDonald's parking lot in North Tonawanda. Snickles allegedly said he would be driving a blue Beretta and would be with a friend would be "packing heat" and there "better be no problems," the report said. Snickles allegedly raised the asking price of the phone to $125, saying he had a fine to pay. Deputies, with the assistance of the North Tonawanda Police Department, went to the scene and took both Snickles and his friend into custody. Snickles allegedly admitted the phone was not his and he had planned to sell it back to the owner. His friend was released, but Snickles was arrested and held in lieu of $500 bail. He is due Jan. 8 in Wheatfield Town Court on the charge of petit larceny, and he is due Jan. 7 in North Tonawanda City Court on the possession of stolen property charge.
