[May 16, 2008] Website Offered For Gibbs Students Tweet (Hartford Courant, The (CT) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 16--Students at Gibbs College's Farmington and Norwalk campuses can access information about the school's impending closure and options for further studies through a website created by the state Department of Higher Education. The website, www.ctdhe.org/gibbs, is intended to help students navigate the closure of the college, which enrolls just over 700 students in its associate's degree programs. Gibbs' parent company, the Career Education Corporation, announced in February that it would close the college by Dec. 31, 2009. Most students are expected to complete their degrees by then, but a smaller pool of part-time students are not on track to finish. Eight colleges have made arrangements for Gibbs students who wish to transfer: Briarwood College, Charter Oak State College, Goodwin College, Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Norwalk Community College, Post University, St. Joseph College, and the University of Bridgeport. In a statement, Higher Education Commissioner Michael P. Meotti, whose office has been working with Gibbs and its students, said he hoped more schools will accept Gibbs credits. Gibbs President Kurt Peterson is expected to brief the Board of Governors for Higher Education Wednesday.
