Weather satellite Himawari 6 fails to send images due to glitch+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 17_(Kyodo) _ Japan's weather satellite, Himawari 6, has been unable to send weather observation images to the ground due to glitches in its computer system to control its position, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Monday.

The problem, which occurred at around 1 a.m. Monday, is "the most serious trouble since the satellite started its operations in June last year," the agency said.

The agency put the satellite back to its normal position at around 5 a.m., but the satellite has been unable to resume its operations because its temperature has soared, it said.

The agency is seeking to resume operations of the satellite on Monday, and is currently using weather observation images taken by a U.S. satellite.

In September last year, the satellite went out of service for six hours because of problems with the onboard communications system.
