Walker to join Obama for Wisconsin visit
Feb 14, 2012 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Republican Gov. Scott Walker will greet President Barack Obama in Milwaukee on Wednesday and accompany him on a visit to Master Lock in Milwaukee's central city.
Walker's spokesman Cullen Werwie said Walker will meet the president at Mitchell International Airport and join him on the visit to Master Lock. Walker is not expected to make any remarks during the Master Lock visit.
As he did in his State of the Union speech, Obama is expected to credit Master Lock for bringing 100 jobs from China back to its Milwaukee factory.
In advance of Obama's visit, Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) have scheduled a teleconference with reporters to discuss the president's trip to Wisconsin, which they called a campaign trip.
"It's always a big event when the president of the United States visits your state, the problem is that he's using the people of Wisconsin as a backdrop for his re-election tour," said RNC Spokesman Ryan Mahoney. "We think having Governor Walker with the president will provide a stark contrast between Walker, who's willing to make the tough decisions to get Wisconsin back on track, and President Obama, whose decisions seem to be solely based on what's best for his re-election chances."
