Verizon expands and enhances 4G LTE network in Cattaraugus-Allegany area

Jul 11, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- US wireless communications company Verizon Wireless said on Tuesday that it has activated a new 4G LTE coverage in Alfred, Almond, West Almond, Andover, Bolivar, Conewango Valley, Gowanda, Houghton and Little Valley, New York.

This activation further expands coverage on the high-speed wireless data network the company launched locally in April 2012.

Verizon said that its 4G LTE customers can experience speeds up to 10 times faster than customers on 3G networks. In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, Verizon's customers will be able to experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

The company's 4G LTE network is currently available to two-thirds of the U.S. population in more than 300 markets nationwide.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ)(Nasdaq: VZ) and Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq: VOD).
