Vasco's DIGIPASS available for iPhone and iPod Touch

(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vasco Data Security Inc (Nasdaq: VDSI) announced today that its DIGIPASS for Mobile application is now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, making it accessible to an additional 20 million users.

The application, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, provides users with a two-factor authentication method for accessing enabled m-banking, e-banking, e-commerce and enterprise applications.

The organisation providing the enabled application must integrate VASCO server technology (VACMAN Controller, VACMAN Middleware IDENTIKEY or aXsGUARD) and will assign which applications, such as e-banking, brokerage, VPN, application security and webmail access, DIGIPASS for Mobile will use. For the native integration into existing applications, VASCO has a software development kit available (DIGIPASS API). For the roll-out of DIGIPASS for Mobile on iPhone, the end-user will connect to the App Store to download the authentication application.

When users log on to the e-banking application on PC, an SMS will be send to the iPhone by the server at the bank. The user will then launch the authentication application on the iPhone by inserting a PIN-code. The authentication application will generate an OTP (one time passcode) on the iPhone. To sign the transaction the user will validate the OTP on the iPhone. The company said that the solution is well suited to protect banks and users from man-in-the-Middle attacks, considering two separate channels, the PC and the iPhone, are used to sign transactions.

No details of the costs of implementing the DIGIPASS solution were discussed.
