UTB/TSC RECEIVES FUNDING FROM DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Oct 02, 2009 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- WASHINGTON--Today, U.S. Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz announced The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College received more than $240,000 from the Department of Education for the implementation of a hybrid graduate program of study in Computer and Information Sciences.

"The Computer and Information Sciences Department at UTB/TSC will work closely as they integrate face-to-face and Web-based components to the graduate curriculum in an effort to improve learning effectiveness and better serve students," Ortiz said. "This will be done by implementing a graduate curriculum that allows for less face-to-face instruction and more Web-based instruction." UTB/TSC received $240,376 and the funds are available today, according to the Department of Education.

Ortiz said students who seek a master's degree in computer sciences have the potential of earning more money and better career opportunities.

"Our South Texas college students must work to earn advanced degrees as they seek better paying jobs and career opportunities throughout the world," Ortiz said. "We must be able to compete globally, especially in the areas of computer sciences and technology, and UTB/TSC is doing their part in these efforts." #DAL1234#
