U.S. Based Shipper in 4-1-9 Deal?

Jan 09, 2012 (The New Dawn/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- A US-based Liberian shipper, Thomas Lafay Kruah of the Thomas and Lafay Kruah Shipping Group, has come under serious public scrutiny for allegedly failure to deliver several valuable items worth thousands of US Dollars shipped by Liberians based in the United States through the shipping agency.

This was after he had allegedly received advances and full payments for shipment from clients, but has failed to deliver the items and was now said to be pushing them around.

Two of Mr. Kruah's clients, Ms Musue Haddad and Mr. James Fasukoi told this paper over the weekend how they separately gave several items to Mr. Kruah, who operates from Pennsylvania, Allentown in the US for shipment months ago but they were yet to receive their items in full.

Some of the items shipped by Ms. Haddad include Compaq desktop computer with flat screen monitor, 5 in one Canon: printer, scanner, copier, fax, telephone, JVC camcorder, Used Dell laptop computer, Epson 2400 scanner- digitize traditional negatives, 15 years of photographic documentary works in Ghana and Liberia under ex-President Charles Taylor, over 100 kids educational DVD's, and CDs, over 50 Kids educational and classical VHS and My Father's World First grade complete curriculum and books.

Other items are variety of high school workbooks and Teacher's edition - reading, science, and vocabulary, among others plus over 500 educational and enrichment books, variety of activity books (science workbook, experimental kits, hands-on games, among others) and Kids/Discovery laptop, laptop batteries, women clothes and accessories, custom jewelries, kids clothes and accessories, kids and women shoes and sandals as well as personal items, including toiletries, beddings, and household materials.

Items shipped by Mr. Fasukoi include, a vehicle, fan belt, 1 used tire, and 1 wheel lock, among others.

Ms. Haddad and Fasukoi said Mr. Kruah, who delivered few of the items, which were badly damaged under the cover of darkness sometimes in November last year, promised to have delivered the remaining items within few days, but has remained evasive since.

Musue said the few items she received were damaged, including an Epson scanner, and several suitcases.

"He promised in November to get all of my things", Musue said, and added, "but instead of bringing all of my items, he brought the first batch with most of the things damaged and my suit cases opened and wet in the middle of the night." Further narrating her experience, she said, "Upon delivering the few items, he pleaded to bring the remaining items in few days; that was in early December 2011. But he has failed to deliver said items. Efforts to have him release our items have led to empty promises. He has become very evasive and rude." According to her, when she contacted Mr. Kruah regarding the damaged scanner and damped suitcases, Mr. Kruah insisted that the items were in that condition, but Musue said she informed him that there is no way she could have paid for the shipment of a damaged scanner.

"My car came smashed at the front of the passenger side, while the under carrier was badly damaged due to congested packing of the container," Fasukoi lamented.

"The car would have caused accident and loss of lives if I had not noticed the initial problems," Fasukoi said, and added, "he has promised to service my car, but for every time I called him, he will tell me to meet him at a place, but never shows up." Both Musue and Fasukoi have questioned Mr. Kruah's business style, and are warning Liberians abroad to be careful by avoiding similar fate. When contacted, Mr. Kruah rejected being interviewed on the phone and suggested meeting this writer at his residence.

But when told that a public place would be ideal, he settled for Sam Barbeque on 24 Street, Sinkor at 4:30 PM.

At 4:15, when this writer called to remind him (Kruah) of the planned meeting, Kruah reverted to granting an interview via mobile phone, but when the writer said he (writer) was driving, Kruah suggested that the writer call him when he is off the traffic.

However, when the writer called later after leaving the traffic, Mr. Kruah failed to answer his phone and return the calls.
