Upgrade boost for giant surf webcam [Western Morning News (England)]

(Western Morning News (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The webcam overlooking Cornwall's famous big surfing wave has received a major upgrade.

The Cribbar, a huge reef surf break unique to Newquay, can reach heights of up to 30 feet but occurs only a handful of times a year under certain Atlantic swell conditions.

But the surf, a major draw for big wave riders, is under constant surveillance by CribbarCam which is run by artist and lifelong surfer Nicholas Williams from his studio, the old lifeboat station on Towan Head.

Leading webcam specialist SeSys is now introducing a new system which enables a larger number of viewers on the web with smoother images.

Mr Williams has also teamed up with the UK Pro Surf Tour who will be providing additional support to monitor predicted swells for surfing the Cribbar and will help alert viewers to related events of interest.

Dave Reed, director of the UK Pro Surf Tour, said "CribbarCam is a good promotional tool for Newquay allowing visitors throughout the world to view a stunning part of our coast. We will be sending alerts via Twitter @cribbarcam when the Cribbar is breaking." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
