Universal American Achieves Strong Medicare Star Quality Ratings


WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --(Business Wire)--

Universal American (NYSE:UAM) announced today that it once again achieved strong Medicare Star Quality Ratings for its Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. Nearly 85% of the membership in plans that Universal American will continue in 2015 have the benefit of a 4-star rating1. The company earned 4-star ratings for its flagship TexanPlus® HMO/ HMO-POS plan in Houston-Beaumont (H4506) as well as its largest plan in New York and Maine, Today's Options® Network PFFS plan (H2816). Star ratings are posted at the Federal government's website -- www.medicare.gov.

Enrollment is these plans is available during Medicare's Annual Election Period (AEP), which begins on October 15, 2014 and runs through December 7, 2014, and year-round for those beneficiaries eligible for enrollment during Medicare's Special Election Periods (SEP). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) evaluates Medicare Advantage plans based on a 5-star rating system in several categories, including quality of care and customer service. The overall rating provides a way for Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to compare performance among several plans.
