Unitive CEO Laura Mather Steps Into Global Spotlight

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In a sign of robust growth in the bias analytics sector, Unitive founder and CEO Laura Mather has been recognized by three global thought leadership conferences taking place in December: Fortune's Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit, Closing the Gap and Foreign Policy's 100 Leading Global Thinkers of 2015.

Unitive is a technology solution for full talent activation, helping corporations build diverse, innovative, productive teams. Unitive goes beyond training and reinforces behavioral change in real-time. Unitive transforms theoretical ideas about unconscious bias into pragmatic solutions that build stronger teams.

Mather, founder of the first comprehensive technology platform to tackle unconscious bias in hiring and promotions processes, will participate in an expert panel titled "Hacking Unconscious Bias" Dec. 2 at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit. She was selected as one of Foreign Policy's 100 Leading Global Thinkers of 2015, and will speak at Closing the Gap in Palm Beach, FL Dec. 7 about technology's role in fostering a more inclusive workforce.

With Unitive, Mather is developing a suite of software to transform the talent management landscape by bolstering traditional hiring processes with software to eliminate unconscious bias and get the right people into the right jobs.

"At Unitive, we envision a world where your path to success isn't predetermined by a homogenous culture that prceded you," Mather said. "We take a robust and scalable approach to create workplace cultures that are effective, efficient and reflect the diversity of the world around us. I'm delighted to participate in these three events and help keep talent at the forefront of conversations on business success."

Mather combines expertise in technology, insights into human behavior and an entrepreneurial savvy to address major challenges facing business and society. She co-founded Silver Tail Systems in 2008 and built it to a team of more than 100 that protected over one billion accounts before it was acquired by RSA, the security division of EMC, in December of 2012. Mather began her career at the National Security Agency and then Britannica.com before pioneering anti-phishing practices for eBay and PayPal in the early 2000s.

Throughout these professional experiences, Mather became intrigued with how the most productive teams were formed. She witnessed how a lack of diversity stunted innovation and effectiveness at organizations, whether big or small, government, startup or Fortune 500.

Fueled by these observations and driven by the importance of helping organizations become more productive, innovative, and effective, Mather began researching the changes required to move today's organizations forward. What she found was a plethora of research on how organizations could become more productive and innovative, but no realistic, scalable methodology for implementing the research.

"Laura is mapping a path to systemic change in this great undiscovered world of using technology to avoid blind spots in decision making," said Nick Sturiale, managing partner at Ignition and lead Unitive investor. "Hiring is the most important thing a company does, and Laura's uncovered a way to operationalize psychological findings and help hiring managers minimize bias as much as possible."

In 2012, Mather was named number 16 on Fast Company's Most Creative People in Business list, number six on Fortune's list of Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs and number nine on Business Insider's list of Most Powerful Women Engineers. In 2013, she was named to the top 50 Future Digital Strategists for Corporate Boards by Agenda magazine.

She has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics.
