United States : DUKE ENERGY to replace streetlights to LED [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Duke Energy contractors is planning to replace all of the city s 11,290 curret streetlights from standard incandescent bulbs to Light Emitting Diode, or LED, bulbs that produce the same amount of light.

Duke is paying for all of the light bulbs, fixtures and the cost of installation. The city rents the fixtures from Duke, according to Paul Bertels, city Traffic Operations Manager.

Bertels stated that the benefits of converting to LED lighting are while the savings of .02 percent is small and negligible, the carbon footprint reduction is enormous; outages will be reduced tremendously as LED bulbs last approximately 25,550 hours compared to about 7,000 hours for high pressure sodium bulbs; LED lighting generates a high-intensity white light while the current lighting has an emits an orange tint.

This will enhance safety and lend to a more aesthetically pleasing look along Clearwater s streets and roadways, Bertels commented.

The work will be started this week and will continue through the next 15 months. The project will start in the Countryside area sometime around the end of August or first of September, and crews will work south and west until the project is complete.
