United Kingdom : Minister announces appointment of six Members to the Governing Body of Stranmillis University College [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Governing Body is responsible for overseeing the College s activities, achievement of its mission, compliance with its framework of governance and the Financial Memorandum under which funding is received from the Department for Employment and Learning.



The following appointments take effect from 1 August 2014 for a period of four years: Dr Birnie is an economic analyst and commentator; Dr Birnie will bring a wealth of experience gained at very senior levels, and an appreciation of the role of a governing body; Dr Birnie does not hold any other public appointments, Mr Hanna is Chief Executive of a large public sector body within the education sector whose background, breadth of knowledge and experience, will complement and add to the existing strengths of the Governing Body; Mr Hanna does not hold any other public appointments, Mrs Huddleson is the Principal of a County Down Grammar School, and a former student of Stranmillis; this experience gives her a good understanding of the College and the environment in which it operates; Mrs Huddleson does not hold any other public appointments, Mr Jardine is a retired senior civil servant with very wide ranging experience in a number of different areas; he will bring excellent research and analytical skills to the Governing Body; Mr Jardine is also a member of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) for which he receives £5,050 per annum, Mrs Moore is a qualified accountant working in the further education sector; this has given her an in-depth knowledge of the issues facing an institution in the wider education field; Mrs Moore does not hold any other public appointments, Mr Patterson s experience in the Human Resource field over many years in different types of organisations and sectors will make him a valuable addition to the Governing Body; Mr Patterson does not hold any other public appointments.

Stranmillis was founded in 1922 by the then recently established Ministry of Education for Northern Ireland to provide state-funded teacher training alongside that already available at the existing St Mary s College. Both institutions have become academically recognised as university colleges of Queen s University Belfast. Stranmillis offers teacher training for the primary and secondary school sectors as well as professional development courses, a BA in Early Childhood Studies and a BSc in Health and Leisure.
