Ultra Electronics, 3eTI Enhances AirGuard iMesh Wireless Solution with FIPS 140-2 Validation

Ultra Electronics, 3eTI®, a leading cyber-technology company with products and solutions that secure critical infrastructure and improve operational efficiency, today announced FIPS 140-2 validation for the AirGuard® iMesh wireless device. It now offers the highest level of certified security available for wireless connectivity that improves system availability and efficiency while reducing endpoint cyber-risk.

The iMesh solution allows industrial operators to wirelessly extend process monitoring functionality to plant-wide assets such as oil refineries, utility generation plants, electrical power substations and metal and mineral processing facilities. It plugs cyber vulnerabilities with the most effective and proven security protocols governed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to certify cryptographic modules.

Designed for flexible integration, AirGuard's attainment of this notable credential complements its advantages as a cost-effective and low-power security solution for reliably protecting sensor and network data. The AirGuard cryptographic module provides secure ISA 100.11a and 802.15.4 wireless communication by linking remote field devices for secure relay of process monitoring, automation, and network data back to the network. The battery-powered and rugged device further adds value by extending secure connections virtually anywhere.

"This new certification underscores our drive to be unsurpassed in delivery of the industry's most trusted and robust security solutions for critical operations," said Benga Erinle, President, 3eTI. "We continue to develop innovative offerings that protect installed investments without sacrificing performance or the bottom line."

AirGuard is widely deployed across DoD and the US Navy for applications that include vessel/base communications and building control monitoring. Its utility as a standalone access-point bridge that is intelligent and self-healing has earned it and 3eTI numerous contracts for facility communications and advanced metering networking. Beyond monitoring for water/gas meter and thermocouple devices, the iMesh Gateway (News - Alert) supports steam trap monitoring; it does so currently for DoD. The new FIPS 140-2 certification improves upon this strong pedigree and the product's track record for economically extending secure communications to IP-based devices such as transmitters, laptops, cameras, RFID readers and sensors.
