Toshiba Awarded Prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award

(TAIS), a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, today announced it has been awarded with a Red Dot Award for product design for two of its products, the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and the Portégé® Z20t. As one of the world's largest and most distinguished design competitions, this annual and international award recognizes an elite subset of innovative companies that developed products with distinguished design qualities unlike any other in the category. The Red Dot is a quality seal for good design and innovations, which constitutes and highlights the quality difference globally.

The tablet weighs only 1.6 pounds and when combined with the keyboard dock, just 3.3 pounds2. The keybard dock features a simple hinge mechanism that allows the tablet to be detached with one hand. The 2015 Red Dot Award winners are decided by the Red Dot jury, a panel of designers, respected design professors and specialist journalists from 25 countries. With 4,928 innovative entries from 1,994 participants from 56 countries in 2015 alone, the Red Dot Award: Product Design is now the largest and most recognized product competition in the world. Products are evaluated based on the following criteria: degree of innovation, ergonomics, product periphery, functionality, durability, self-explanatory quality, formal quality, symbolic and emotional content and ecological compatibility.
