TM wants broadband tax relief [Business Times (Malaysia)]

(Business Times (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Tax breaks in the information and communications technology sector would be greatly welcomed by the telecommunications industry as a whole if it is included in the upcoming 2015 Budget on October 10.

"Overall, we are looking for an inclusive budget because at the end of the day, it is about making the life of people easier," said Telekom Malaysia Bhd group chief executive officer and managing director Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

"If there is a tax break for Internet broadband, it would great as there is a clear correlation between the availability of broadband and the economic growth of a country," he said when asked about his wish list for the budget.

Zamzamraini spoke on the sidelines at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2014 (KMF 2014). He was part of the panel discussion on the topic of "Firms and Transformation: Solving the impossible trinity of creating value through institutions, innovation and inclusion".

The two-day annual event is organised by government investment fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
