Thousands to Rally for School Choice at Capitol in ColumbiaFamilies and educators from all different forms of school choice - from traditional public schools to charter, magnet, online, private, and home education options - will join forces to celebrate opportunity in education with a rally at the capitol in Columbia. The event, planned for January 24 at 10:00 a.m. will begin at the Columbia Convention Center. Participants will then march through downtown to the Capitol to host a rally on the north steps featuring Governor Henry McMaster presenting a proclamation of South Carolina School Choice Week. Families and educators from all types of South Carolina schools from public to homeschooling will attend. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the student-focused event. The goal of the rally is to stand up for school choice and promote the pathway to opportunity that t provides many families. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 21-27, 2018), which will feature more than 32,000 events across the country. "It is an exciting time in the Palmetto State and this year's rally for school choice is going to be our biggest event yet," said Ellen Weaver, president and CEO of the Palmetto Promise Institute. "Every year thousands of South Carolinians come together to have their voices heard and this year our message is loud and clear: every child - no matter their background, their zip code, or their parent's income - deserves access to an education environment that works for them."
