Thompson Hine Hosts Accelerate@TH in Collaboration with Cleveland Leadership Center

Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce the inaugural Accelerate@TH, a Shark Tank-style event where five civic entrepreneurs will each have five minutes to pitch their ideas for improving Cleveland. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, 2018 and is being conducted in connection with the Cleveland Leadership Center as a follow-up to its fourth annual Accelerate: Citizens Make Change event in February.

"Thompson Hine is committed to the Cleveland community and excited about working closely on these innovative projects with local civic-minded entrepreneurs," said the firm's Cleveland office partner-in-charge, Robyn Minter Smyers. Smyers has served as a category judge for CLC's Accelerate program for three years in a row. "We look forward to partnering with these individuals to achieve success."

Winners will secure seed funding and broad exposure to help their vision become reality, as well as a partnership with Thompson Hine for volunteer and/or pro bono assistance.

"We are thrilled to see Thompson Hine extend the impact of Accelerate by creating this additional opportunity for more individuals to realize their civic visions," said Marianne Crosley, CLC president and CEO. "We are grateful the firm co-sponsored the Quality of Life pitch category this year, joining presenting sponsor Citizens Bank and others to collaborate on making our community better."

The civic entrepreneurs who will make pitches at Accelerate@TH include:

Activate Art Gardens (Jacci Hammer & Joe Linsky): Trnsforming vacant spaces that once contained homes in Slavic Village into gardens and creative spaces that encourage community and neighborhood family involvement.

Forest City Adventures (Katie Kohn): World-class outdoor programs that cultivate adaptive leadership skills of diverse high school students, enabling them to understand and thrive in complex environments.

Music Lens: Inspiring Creativity and Confidence (Corinne Auger): A free introductory music program for lower-income elementary schoolers. We create a supportive, high-energy experience of possibility, discovery and excitement.

Special Needs Resource Library (Angela Bair & Eric Linderman): A library that makes educational and therapeutic resources accessible to parents/caregivers of special needs children as well as educators, students and professionals.

Teen Entrepreneur Pop-Up Shops (Tory Coats): Providing young entrepreneurs business experience and the opportunity to sell products out of underutilized and vacant storefronts to help envision and promote the future of small business in our communities.
