Tesco veteran Higginson is new man at Morrisons helm [Herald, The (Scotland)]

(Herald, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MORRISONS has named Tesco veteran Andrew Higginson as its next chairman.

Mr Higginson, who spent 15 years as an executive director at Tesco, will join the Morrisons board on October 1 as non-executive deputy chairman and chairman elect.

He will then replace current chairman Ian Gibson when he retires next year. Yesterday Mr Higginson said he will stand down as chairman of discount store Poundland to take up the supermarket role.

The former Unilever and Guinness executive is also chairman at home shopping group N Brown as well as senior independent director at BSkyB and a non-executive director at the Rugby Football Union.

Morrisons chief executive Dalton Philips is under pressure to reverse its falling market share.
