Tenet's Detroit Medical Center Recognized for Top Performance Among Medicare Pioneer ACOsTenet Healthcare Corporation's (NYSE: THC) Michigan Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) generated an estimated savings of nearly $17 million in its third performance year, making it the most successful Pioneer ACO in 2014 for benchmark savings improvement. The Michigan Pioneer ACO is affiliated with Tenet's Detroit Medical Center and is one of only 19 organizations nationally participating in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) accountable care initiative. This initiative is designed to achieve CMS's "triple aim" of providing more coordinated care to Medicare beneficiaries at a lower cost to the Medicare program, while achieving rigorous quality standards. The Michigan Pioneer ACO yielded nearly $39 million of savings over a three-year period, during which time the ACO also experienced consecutive year-over-year improvement in quality results. "The focus of our Michigan Pioneer ACO is to improve care transitions and care coordination, supported by efforts to ensure patients see their primary care physician within seven days after hospital discharge and encouraging every patient to see their primary care physician for their Medicare annual wellness visit," said Joe Mullany, chief executive officer of Detroit Medical Center. More than 20,000 Medicare beneficiaries receive their care from providers in the Michigan Pioneer ACO. Improved access to services, including preventive medical care, is facilitated by physicians participating within the ACO and is achieved through enhanced coordination and communication among patients, physicians, hospitals and other caregivers.
