Temasys WebRTC Plugin Deployed by ShoreTel for Browser-Based CallingPALO ALTO, Calif., March 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Web Real-Time Communications pioneer Temasys announced today its WebRTC Plugin for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Apple Safari is powering the softphone functionality of the ShoreTel Connect™ Unified Communication (UC) solutions. With the plugin installed within the two browsers, ShoreTel Connect customers need only a headset and an Internet connection to turn their computer into a phone. The Temasys plugin adds WebRTC functionality to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Apple's Safari browsers, replicating the native experience that Connect's Softphone already delivers to users of Google Chrome and Firefox. The addition of the Temasys plugin breaks down barriers by making WebRTC access ubiquitous to users of any web browser, making it truly possible to communicate anytime, anyplace and through any device. "Temasys was the only provider who had a comprehensive solution," said Stefan Zschiegner, Vice President of product management at ShoreTel. "The Temasys implementation team made the integration painless for our developers and their support team was responsive and knowledgeable. As a result, we are able to bring robust softphone functionality to ShoreTel customers regardless of which browser they chose to use." ShoreTel Connect is available in three deployment models: Connect CLOUD is a hosted UC solution; Connect ONSITE allows customers to own and operate their equipment on premises; and Connect HYBRID offers a mix-and-match of both cloud and onsite apps and services. "ShoreTel is a market leader in Unified Communications that clearly recognizes how browser -based communications for UC is growing due to WebRTC," said Bent Rye, CEO of Temasys. "Their deployment of the plugins broadens their reach and enables near ubiquitous use of the Connect service the world over, eliminating the barriers that Safari and IE present." Each ShoreTel offering features the Temasys plugin in the browser-based ShoreTel Connect web app. The Connect app povides a simple interface across various deployment types, and features built-in collaboration tools such as instant messaging, audio and web conferencing, peer-to-peer video calling and web desktop sharing. Connect is designed to simplify the way IT departments deploy, manage, scale, and secure phone systems. With ShoreTel Connect, businesses gain increased flexibility and customer insights, increasing the ability to collaborate with employees inside the company as well as with partners and customers – all while lowering IT operating costs. The Temasys plugin launched in 2014 has been installed in millions of web browsers worldwide, enabling users of Internet Explorer and Safari to overcome the lack of WebRTC support by the two browsers.
