Veraz Networks, a global provider of IP softswitches and media
gateways, has been chosen by Brazilian mobile operator, Telemig
Celular, to optimize the bandwidth between Telemig's Mobile Switching
Centers (MSCs).

The deployment of Veraz's I-Gate 4000 media gateways has resulted in a
reduction of bandwidth between switching sites by a ratio of up to 16
to 1 which has helped Telemig reduce both operational and capital
expenditures.

"Prior to selecting Veraz, we conducted a comprehensive review of
competing solutions, looking specifically at impact on profitability,
return on investment, and reduction of capital and operational
expenditures over time," said Paulo Matos, Director of Engineering of
Telemig Celular. "The savings generated by Veraz's media gateways has
been very impressive and has helped us become more competitive in our
market."

The Veraz I-Gate 4000 media gateways use VoIP to transport and optimize
the voice signals between Telemig's MSCs while maintaining excellent
voice quality. In addition to bandwidth optimization, because the Veraz
solution is built on an open standards-based architecture, it allows
for a smoother migration to a full NGN or IMS solution. Operators can
implement Veraz media gateways for applications today and benefit from
their flexibility tomorrow as their needs evolve.

"Telemig Celular is widely recognized as an efficient and innovative
company with the highest standards of excellence," said Carlos Linares,
Vice President of CALA for Veraz. "We, at Veraz take great pride in
having Telemig as a client and look forward to helping it to meet its
challenges now and in the future."
