TECHtionary Tutorials Explain IPTV

IPTV-Internet Protocol over TeleVision is an emerging service for the Triple Play provider of television, high-speed internet access and telephony. Here are the key “focus group” tutorials:

- IPTV-Internet Protocol TeleVision including: POTS-Plain Old Telephone analog Service, DSL-Digital Subscriber Line, ethernet, STP-Set Top Box, IAD-Integrated Access Devices, TDM-Time Division Multiplexing, IP Centrex and other terms.


- FTTH-Fiber-To-The-Home including PON-Passive Optical Networks, L-Band optical fiber, C-Band, MDU-Multiple Dwelling Units, CATV networks, cable modems, HFC-Hybrid Fiber Coaxial networks, CMTS and other terms.

- STP-Set Top Box, RG-Residential Gateways, QPSK-Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, Dual QPSK, DVB-Digital Video Broadcasting and other terms.

- BPL-Broadband over Power Lines – PLC-Power Line Communications including: MV-Medium Voltage, HV-High Voltage, EHV-Extra High Voltage, LV-Low Voltage, AC-Alternating Current, WiFi injection, data extractor, OFDM-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing and other terms.

- WiMAX-Wireless interoperability for Microwave access including PTMP-Point-To-Multi-Point, BWA-Broadband Wireless Access, QAM, QPSK, Dual Binary PSK, Dual Phase Shift Keying

CSF-Connected Services Framework – Microsoft development tools for Triple Play providers. Utilizing UDDI-Universal Description, Discovery and Integration which is designed for use with SOAP-Simple Open Access Protocol which defines how to package or format a database request such OLAP-On-Line Analytical Processing as an XML string (bits of data) that can be transported via HTTP-Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol (Layer 5-7), CSF can provide all media (TV, tones, movies, games) services to multiple devices (phones, set top boxes and PCs).
