Tech Test Drive: Juice Firefox Plugin

Nov 10, 2008 (San Jose Mercury News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Juice Firefox Plugin is for all of you who treat Internet surfing like a pie-eating competition, scarfing up as much random information as you can. The software creates a sidebar to Firefox 3 where users can store photos and videos. It also surfaces new information about any term that is highlighted and dragged in the direction of the sidebar. For example, highlighting "Naomi Watts" in a story on PopSugar prompts Juice to retrieve everything from a Wikipedia article about the actress to links to photos and links to Google News.

The good: Juice makes browsing more fun and more efficient. It's got a nice multicultural vibe, being the first product of Linkool Labs, a Beijing start-up founded by a former product manager for Lucent Technologies in Milpitas.

The bad: Juice's index is not very deep. Highlighting President-elect "Obama" the day after the election failed to bring up his acceptance speech. It also currently works only with Firefox 3.

The bottom line: Easy to use and intuitive, Juice is an example of how plug-ins like Briteclick and BlogRovR are changing how we view consumer information on the Web.
