Tandberg MXP Codec Receives FIPS Validation(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Tandberg, a global provider of telepresence, high-definition video conferencing and mobile video solutions, announced that the Tandberg MXP Codec has been awarded Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS) 140-2 Validation, a validation requirement for any cryptographic product used in a U.S. government agency network. According to Tandberg, the FIPS 140-2 standard is a joint effort by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), under the Canadian government. The Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), headed by NIST, provides module and algorithm testing for FIPS 140-2, which applies to Federal agencies using validated cryptographic modules to protect sensitive government data in computer and telecommunication systems. FIPS 140-2 provides stringent third-party assurance of security claims on any product containing cryptography that may be purchased by a government agency. "As government agencies work to control system use and access to sensitive information, secure communication tools rank high on their list of technology requirements," said Joel Brunson, president, TANDBERG Federal. "By achieving FIPS validation across our entire MXP product line, we are demonstrating our continued commitment to providing customers with robust network security features and adequate levels for privacy." Tandberg noted that the FIPS 140-2 standard is under review by ISO to become an international standard. The standard continues to gain worldwide recognition as an important benchmark for third-party validations of encryption products of all kinds. In order to expedite the FIPS 140-2 validation process, Tandberg also said it partnered with Corsec Security, Inc., a consulting firm with over ten years of validation experience. "We are proud to have had a role in helping Tandberg seamlessly navigate through product validation, quickly and efficiently, to achieve the gold standard for encryption security," said Matt Appler, chief executive officer, Corsec Security, Inc. "Achieving FIPS 140-2 compliance truly sets TANDBERG apart from likeminded video conferencing providers and guarantees government customers the security they require for day-to-day operations."
