Sweetwater Cable Sees Immediate Results with ZCorum's PreEqualization Analyzer

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics, announced that Sweetwater Cable has signed an agreement for PreEqualization Analyzer, a proactive network maintenance (PNM) tool. The new tool has already paid off for Sweetwater, allowing the Wyoming-based operator to find issues that were previously hidden.

PreEqualization Analyzer is a software-based tool that makes use of the pre-equalization data coming from cable modems, so it is able to identify upstream impairments in the cable plant even before subscriber services are impacted. The tool shows the severity and approximate location of the problem, as well as which devices are being affected by a common impairment. This allows operators to proactively fix impairments in their plant, while benefiting from the improved signal quality inherent in DOCSIS pre-equalization.

Marty Carollo, Network Manager at Sweetwater Cable, said his team has already benefited from the product. "One example is a VoIP customer who was experiencing dropped calls and echoing. Signals in the home looked normal. We had previously changed out the fittings and the box, but the customer and her neighbors were still experiencing issues." According to Carollo, implementing PreEqualization Analyzer immediately gave his technicians the information they needed to find the root cause. "PreEqualization Analyzer pointed us to a bad fitting that was over 600-feet away." Carollo said the fitting was not crimping properly, causing movement of the cable inside the tap during temperature fluctuations.

"We never would have found that fitting had it not been for PreEqualization Analyzer," said Carollo. "It's one of those things that are like ghost parts. You know they are there, but you can't find them. PreEqualization Analyzer pointed us right to the problem. It's definitely making a difference in how we troubleshoot issues and how we will maintain our plant in the future. It has been an absolute success for us." "We're hearing a number of success stories like Marty's from our customers who are using this tool," said Julie Compann, ZCorum's President and CEO. "PreEqualization Analyzer is changing the way cable operators approach plant maintenance, allowing them to immediately improve the quality and reliability of their network. We're excited to see the impact the tool is having." ZCorum is currently offering risk-free trials of PreEqualization Analyzer and will be demonstrating the tool next week at the 2014 NCTC Independent Show in Kansas City, Missouri.
