Sutherland Expands Environmental Practice with Addition of Two Partners
WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announced today that Jay Holloway and
Liz Williamson have joined the firm's Energy and Environmental
Practice Group as partners in Washington, DC, expanding the firm's
services related to environmental regulations. Both were previously
partners at Winston & Strawn LLP.
Mr. Holloway counsels clients across the United States on compliance
with current and future environmental regulations, permitting and
enforcement matters. He advises utilities, electric cooperatives and
industrial clients on the Clean Air Act, federal environmental laws and
regulations, and state air pollution laws. Mr. Holloway serves as
national environmental counsel to a number of generation and
transmission electric cooperatives. He performs compliance audits,
assists clients with compliance planning and implementation, and
provides regulatory tracking and advocacy. Mr. Holloway has significant
experience serving as lead counsel in Clean Air Act enforcement matters,
citizen suit litigation and rulemaking appeals. He has successfully
negotiated numerous settlements of federal and state new source review
(NSR), acid rain and other enforcement actions.
Ms. Williamson counsels energy clients on environmental regulations
under state and federal law, with an emphasis on Clean Air Act issues.
She advises on compliance, enforcement and strategy related to NSR
enforcement actins, such as responding to Clean Air Act section 114
requests, litigation and settlement of NSR allegations, and advice
concerning ongoing utility NSR compliance. She conducts Clean Air Act
audits for utility clients, including electric cooperatives. Ms.
Williamson also provides day-to-day advice and analysis to clients
concerning reporting documentation for consent decrees and provides
advice on new air regulations. Ms. Williamson represents clients in both
contentious and transactional matters.
"Our energy clients, particularly those in the electric cooperative
space, will greatly benefit from Jay and Liz's extensive environmental
regulatory experience, especially their experience working on new Clean
Air Act rules and enforcement matters," said Sutherland Managing Partner Mark
D. Wasserman. "Jay and Liz have deep relationships within the
electric cooperative community and throughout the energy industry, and
we look forward to them combining forces with our other environmental
and energy attorneys to fully support clients in the industry."
Sutherland's leading Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice
Group includes more than 70 lawyers who act for crude oil, natural gas,
LNG, electric power, electric cooperative, renewable and alternative
energy, oil pipeline and nuclear energy clients. The practice expanded
internationally in March of this year by combining with Arbis LLP in
London and Geneva. Sutherland's environmental lawyers advise clients on
environmental regulation, compliance, transactional risk management and
litigation. The team has substantial experience in water, air and waste
issues arising under the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act
(CERCLA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The
group represents clients before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) and state environmental protection agencies and authorities,
defends potentially responsible party (PRP) claims, and advises clients
about clean-up and remedial actions.
