SureWest Expands Its Data Centers

ROSEVILLE, Calif., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Leading independent communications holding company SureWest Communications today announced the completion of its conversion of a new advanced data center in Citrus Heights, California. This marks the company's second equipment collocation and data center for SureWest business clients in a seismically-stable area out of the Sacramento regional flood zone.

Together with its McClellan Business Park data center, which is now at full capacity, SureWest's new space in Citrus Heights offers businesses a solid option for disaster recovery in a state-of-the-art facility. Secure, and power- and fire-protected, the true significance of these facilities lies in their stable location out of the Sacramento area flood zone.

"Many of the area's data centers are located in the middle of Sacramento's high-risk flood zone," said Paul Krueger, executive director of business sales for SureWest Communications. "In addition to the protection our data centers provide from many day-to-day network threats, it is the business continuity that we offer in the face of certain natural disasters common in this area, specifically flooding, that offers considerable security for many businesses. Our data centers have been singled out because our locations are outside of the local flood zones."

By converting existing excess floor space in its Citrus Heights central office facility and adding infrastructure for raised floors and special environmental conditioning, SureWest has been able to accommodate additional collocation equipment for businesses. The data center conversion more than doubles SureWest's total available data center space, providing businesses with more access to SureWest's cutting-edge, self-healing fiber-optic network. SureWest's network delivers connectivity to all the major carriers in Sacramento and a unique scalability to accommodate large data requirements, including the potential for data replication and mirrored sites.

SureWest currently offers businesses an advanced network, highly reliable business products and customized solutions, and these data centers add a vital component to the business services lineup currently offered by SureWest to customers. In its recent announcement regarding third quarter 2008 earnings results, SureWest revealed that with a 26% increase, the broadband business product line represented the largest year-over-year revenue increase for the company.

"Our business products continue to be one of the driving forces behind the overall growth of SureWest, due to our focus on the individual needs of each customer and our ability to deliver exceptional reliability, functionality and technology," said Krueger. "Our goal is to provide our customers with one central contact for all of their business requirements. Our data center offering is one more way we can support their needs."
