Stress-Testing the PC to Its Limits

SYDNEY, Australia --(Business Wire)-- March 1, 2006 -- PassMark(TM) Software today announced the release of BurnInTest 5.0, the latest version of their award winning stress-test software. BurnInTest 5.0 examines the endurance, reliability and stability of PC systems by simultaneously testing each of its subsystems.

"In today's business world, PC reliability is critical. Failure of any of a PC's subsystems can mean not only a loss of data, but also significant loss of productivity during the downtime required to repair the system. It is crucial therefore, that people can test their PC for endurance, reliability and stability before they place their dependence upon it," said David Wren, Managing Director of PassMark(TM) Software.

He went on to say, "The problem is that many so-called 'stress-test' products used by PC manufacturers do not test all of a PC's subsystems simultaneously. When all the subsystems of a PC are running concurrently both power consumption and heat generation increase significantly, so without simultaneous testing how is it possible to ensure the stability and reliability of the PC operating under a peak load?"

One of the key improvements is the ability to incorporate BurnInTest into a PC system builder's existing assembly line process. For example BurnInTest may be instructed to allow other applications to run before or after it has tested the system. It may then be configured to automatically print a post-test result sheet or even a "Results Certificate" suitable for presentation to customers as a guarantee that their system has been thoroughly tested.

Furthermore users can customize BurnInTest with additional "plug-in" tests designed to check other hardware devices. PassMark have already developed a number of such tests including KeyboardTest, FireWireTest and ModemTest.

In addition BurnInTest 5.0 Professional now includes:

-- Specific reporting on Intel/AMD dual core CPUs and Level 2 caches.

-- New tests such as MP3 playback and color printer test pages.

-- Improved Memory, Advanced Networking, USB and HDD tests.

BurnInTest 5.0 is available as either a Standard (32-bit Windows) or Professional Edition (32-bit or 64-bit Windows) and may be downloaded from www.passmark.com for a free 30 day evaluation. Thereafter it may be purchased for US$24.00 for the Standard Edition or US$49.00 for the Professional Edition.
